FAISALABAD -Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF) Vice Chancellor Dr Zakir Hussain said that media could play a pivotal role in motivating the masses about the importance of education to increase literacy which is the prerequisite for development and prosperity. He was talking to renowned media experts at a seminar here the other day. The VC pointed out that media being fourth pillar of the state, had failed to give voice to the real issues of the common man. He also resented that today popular media had lost its credibility among masses. He said that the GCUF was chalking out a comprehensive plan to upgrade its Department of Mass Communication with the establishment of FM Radio and Media Lab. Earlier, the Department’s Board of Studies meeting was held in which Dr AR Khalid, Dr Shabbir Baloch, Punjab University Institute of Communication Studies Director Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, Lahore College for Women University Department of Communication Studies Head Dr Anjum Zia, National College of Arts Multimedia Head Zafar Iqbal, former PTV Managing Director Muhammad Zubair, GCUF Department of Mass Communication Coordinator SM Anwar and other faculty members including Irum Sultana and Sobia Shahzad participated.
