Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Muhammad Bergees Tahir said that maintaining law and order in Karachi was the top priority of the government.
“Those saying that the government has lost the opportunity to maintain law and order in Karachi are undermining its efforts to restore peace in the metropolis,” said the minister talking media persons here on Sunday.
“It is vital to take all the political parties into confidence for improving law and order in the mega city. The government would formulate a joint strategy as it wanted to go ahead with consensus of all the segments of society, he said.
To a question, Tahir said that Pakistan had very good relationship with all the countries, especially China. He said the ongoing mega projects like widening of Karakorum Highway and construction of proposed rail road from Gilgat Baltistan to Gwader Port were vital to enhance bilateral trade and corporation with China.
He said, “Gawadar Port has great economic potential for development of the region. Its development will bring job opportunities and economic prosperity to Balochistan. We hope that under Chinese company, the work of Gawadar Port development will speed up. Projects to connect Gawadar Port with road network are being expedited.”
He said that Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province with rich natural resources. In the past, he added, only lip service was made regarding development of Balochistan but the present government believed in action. Development of Balochistan was one of the key objectives of Pakistan 2025 Plan, he said and added that the future belongs to education and knowledge.
Unfortunately, he said, Balochistan is lagging behind other provinces in education sector. “Those targeting teachers in Balochistan are doing biggest disservice to the people living in the province. Education is the key to a prosperous future. Resolution of all the political disputes can be found by strengthening democratic institutions. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is committed to bringing an end to bloodshed in Balochistan. Those helping promote terrorism and violence in Balochistan are not friends of the Baloch, rather they are enemies of Pakistan and using elements inside Balochistan for their ulterior motives,” he maintained.
