Police, protesters clash as man killed by ‘dacoits’

NAROWAL - In the wake of the killing of a watchman, father of five, allegedly by dacoits in village Sidhowan, his relatives and villagers took to the streets and blocked the Narowal-Muridke Road for about 16 hours and caused a clash after the police used force to disperse them.
Akhter Ali was on duty as volunteer watchman. Meanwhile, he was allegedly shot by dacoits and died on the spot. When complained, the Niddoke police refused to register a case. Resultantly, the relatives of the deceased started protesting against the police but the police did not pay any heed to their grievances. Then, the protesters put the body on Narowal-Muridke road and suspended vehicular movement. The Narowal district police officer reached the spot but the protestors demanded an action against the SHO of Niddoke police station and refused to end the protest. Then, the police tried to forcefully disperse the protesters causing a clash between the police and the villagers.
As a result, DSP Rana Muhammad Sarwar and three other policemen suffered injuries. Then the police resorted to aerial firing and took the body in custody. The police have shifted the body to DHQ Hospital for postmortem.  When contacted, the claimed that Akhter was not hit by the bullets of dacoits rather he was hit by a blind bullet in the darkness of night. He added that the villagers fabricated a fake story and protested without any reason.
