LAHORE- Police today claimed to have recovered weapons from possession of Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers who clashed with law-enforcers in Lahore where the chaos left eight people dead.
“We have recovered automatic weapons from PAT activists. The armed men opened direct fire on policemen,” said CCPO Lahore, Shafeeq Gujar at a press conference. He said five people were killed in the clash, adding that 53 PAT workers have been arrested. “We are still chasing after them and hopefully all of them will be captured,” he said.
The clashes erupted late on Monday when police entered Model Town and dismantled the barriers outside the PAT chief’s residence that also serves as secretariat o f Minhaj-ul-Quran International. The clashes resumed today morning, turning Lahore’s Model Town area into battle field.
Medics confirmed that eight bodies and over 60 injured have been brought to Lahore’s Jinnah hospital. The hospital administration said 17 policemen are among those wounded.
