PM to send special envoy to Kabul for Waziristan talks

KABUL- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will soon send a special envoy to Afghanistan for talks on the ongoing major operation in North Waziristan, to seek cooperation to make the offensive attack successful reported Afghan presidential palace.

The Prime Minister, during a telephonic contact with President Hamid Karzai Monday evening, sought Kabul's cooperation in the North Waziristan operation, the Palace said on today in a statement.  In response, President Karzai pledged all possible cooperation with the neighboring country's efforts to eliminate insurgent hideouts on both sides of the Duran Line. The neighbors had been affected gravely by the insurgency, Karzai said, stressing civilians should be protected during the military offensive, which has displaced thousands of tribesmen.

Sharif supported Karzai’s call for the safety of civilians, saying a Pakistani delegation would visit Kabul soon to discuss ways of protecting the local population, according to the statement.

In Islamabad, the Foreign Office spokeswoman confirmed the conversation and said the Pakistani leader had requested Karzai to seal the border to prevent the militants' entry into Afghanistan.

Sharif also congratulated Karzai on the successful holding of the presidential election process, a statement from the Presidential Palace said. He hoped the polls would lead to Afghanistan's stability.
