Begging bowl breakers turn into beggars

MULTAN-Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Multan Ameer Mian Asif Mehmood Ikhwani declared on Thursday that JI was going to launch a 10-day campaign from April 18 (today) and 27th against corruption, unemployment and price hike in Multan district.
Addressing a news conference here, he added that a large number of camps would be established at all spots of Multan district and awareness among masses on the above mentioned issues would be created through corner meetings. He said that students, lawyers, labourers and youth would fully participate in the campaign. He said that the dreams shown by the PML-N to the masses regarding agricultural and economic revolution during election campaign had turned into nightmares. He pointed out that the prices of petrol registered increase every month since May 2013 and a total of Rs35 had been increased in per litre price. He maintained that 30 to 45 per cent increase in the prices of edibles forced the masses to commit suicide and over 40 per cent people lived under poverty line.
He said that the government came into power on the slogan of breaking begging bowl but it got loans worth over $67 billion from IMF on tough conditions in just six months. “Similarly, loans worth $ 32.85 million from Islamic Development Bank, $ 100 million Saudi Arab, $ 400 million Asian Development Bank, $1.70 billion World Bank and $505 million from consortium of banks have also been taken besides printing Rs6.72 trillion currency notes,” he further revealed. He said that instead of offering relief to the masses, the government increased electricity prices by Rs2.24 per unit.
He demanded the government to extend relief to the people, abolish cruel taxes from petrol, electricity and gas and bring the prices of fertilizer, seed, pesticides and diesel.
