ISLAMABAD - The resignations tendered by Pakistan People’s Party MPAs, following differences with the party policies, have not been accepted by the Speaker Punjab Assembly yet, and the matter would likely be delayed till the holding of elections on Senate seat from Punjab vacated due to demise of Salahuddin Dogar.
Sources aware of the development informed TheNation that all the three MPAs from Khanewal before resigning from their seats had held meeting with Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and all the three would be joining PML-N.
Friday last, PPP MPAs Babar Hussain, Jamil Shah and Nishat Ahmad Daha had resigned form their slots listing serious differences with the party policies and indifference of party’s high command towards them.
But the resignations tendered by PPP MPAs were so far withheld by the Speaker Punjab Assembly and would not forward it to the Election Commission for de-notification of these members as Punjab Assembly members till the elections of Senate seat vacated in Punjab due to demise of PPP Senator Salahuddin Dogar. Sources in PPP informed that their Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly would raise this issue in the house and would force the Speaker to forward these resignations to Election Commission of Pakistan for further action. Sources in PPP said that a lot many MPAs of ruling PML-N were also in contact with them and it would not be easy for PML-N to win the Senate seat on which Election Commission of Pakistan would hold elections within 60 days of vacation of the seat.
These sources further said that a large number of Unification Block, which had saved the PML-N government following the imposition of the Governor’s Rule in the province was not comfortable with Mian Shahbaz Sharif, as most of the promises made with Atta Manika led Unification Block comprising PML-Q dissidents were not fulfilled and some of the members of Unification Block may desert the ruling PML-N at some crucial moment.
