Protest against professor’s sacking

PESHAWAR - Dozens of students and teaching community of Edward College Peshawar on Tuesday held a protest demonstration against the college principal for termination of a senior faculty member.
The protesting faculty members and students led by Edwards’ College Teachers’ Association (ECTA) President Prof Gulzar Jalal Yousafzai and Noor Muhammad were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the illegal termination, the principal and in favour of their demands. The infuriated protesters amid chanting their full-throated slogans against the college administration gathered at main Sher Shah Suri Road outside Peshawar Press Club.
They also said that incumbent Principal Dr Titus Presler instead of performing his duty of extending educating students here, is working on a foreign agenda for which he also violating college rules and regulations. “If someone talks to follow the set rules and regulation, the principal said that he don’t obey the Pakistani law rather I will carry on my own code of conduct,” they alleged.
They demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Higher Education Commission (HEC) to initiate an inquiry against the principal for terminating an honest and dedicated senior faculty member.
They also demanded immediate removal of the Presler and reinstatement of the sacked senior professor, otherwise, they threatened to launch a protest campaign against the college administration and government authorities. Meanwhile, the students of the University of Peshawar also staged a protest demonstration against the newly introduced GPA system in Biotechnology and Microbiology departments.
The protesting student led by a student of microbiology department Nasir Ayub were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands and against the administration. Talking to media persons on the occasion, the protesting students said that in 2009 a notification regarding the change in GPA system was issued, but now after four years the administration has awaken. Interestingly the system instead of implementing in the first semester, implemented upon the students of final year, which is quite injustice.
They demanded of the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Higher Education Commission to take notice of the illegal action and decision of the university administration and save the future of scores of students from becoming dark.
