Rise in abductions restrict NGOs work

QUETTA - The deteriorated law and order in Balochistan has forced NGOs to limit their activities across the province.
Following the rise in abduction of NGO workers especially after the abduction of an International Committee of Red Crescent (ICRC) official, the United Nations and other international organisations have limited their activities to a five-star hotel, a Unicef official said on the condition of anonymity Tuesday.
Thought these organisations have already abandoned their activities in the province, the recent kidnapping of ICRC official Dr Khalil raised fears among all the international bodies, compelling them to restrict to a five-star hotel, he added. He said the staff of all local and international organisations under the United Nations had been given bullet-proof vehicles. Owing to restriction of activities of international organisations, relief work in Balochistan would be affected. The incidents of kidnapping for ransom have been on the rise for the last couple of years.
