COAS defers Sri Lanka visit

ISLAMABAD - Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has postponed his official visit to Sri Lanka due to the ongoing operation in North Waziristan Agency.
According to the statement released by Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) on Tuesday, said that the Army Chief’s visit to Sri Lanka has been deferred in view of the ongoing NWA operation against terrorists.
The visit of Gen Sharif was scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka on four-day official tour on Tuesday, the ISPR added. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army also confirmed on Tuesday that the visit of General Sharif and his delegation has been postponed due to unavoidable commitments in Pakistan.
Agencies add: During his visit to Sri Lanka the army chief was scheduled to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The general was to attend the passing out parade at the Sri Lanka’s premier army training centre for officer cadets, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), at Diyatalawa.
He was also due to meet meet the Sri Lankan ministry of defence and urban development secretary, chief of defense staff, army commander, navy commander and air force commander, besides visiting several other places.
