Fire MPA or face pen-down strike: APCA

OUR STAFF REPORTer SADIQABAD - The All Pakistan Clerks Association has warned the Punjab government to cancel membership of the PML-N MPA, who along with his aides allegedly beat up a junior clerk in Hafizabad on Monday for not doing an alleged illegal work, within 48 hours or face pen-down strike across the province. MPA Assadullah had thrashed Faiz Ahmed, a worker of Building Department. Resultantly, Faiz had suffered head and hand injuries. A news item also appeared in a section of the media. In reaction, the association directed clerks in all the districts of the province to unit and adopt a collective strategy against the aggressive attitude of the member. Therefore, the APCA demanded immediate cancellation of the MPAs membership in Punjab Assembly, warning that all the clerks in the Punjab would go on pen-drop strike if the government failed meet their demand. Talking to the media in Rahim Yar Khan, APCA district President Rana Ehsanul Haq and General Secretary Nadeem Khan Durrani said that the MPAs thrashing was an alarming bell for the government officials. If our demand is not met within 48 hours, the Rahim Yar Khan clerks are united at the APCA platform and will abide by the orders of provincial leadership of the clerks body, they pledged. We will leave no stone unturned in providing justice for the victim clerk. According to a private TV channel, Faiz alleged that the MPA hurled life threats on him. He also elaborated that he was asked by the lawmaker to do an illegal work, which he refused to oblige. On this, the MPA got infuriated and bashed him in the latters office. On Tuesday, the APCA activists held protest demonstrations in Sargodha against the provincial assembly member for thrashing the clerk. Addressing the protest rally, the APCA leaders said, The Punjab Assembly member has violated the rights of 2.2 million clerks by thrashing the clerk of the Building Department in Hafizabad and it could not be tolerated. The rally started from the Building Department office and culminated at the Agriculture Department office on the Jail Road. The APCA leaders condemned the incident and demanded registration of a case against the MPA. Meanwhile, a strike was also observed by the Provincial Buildings Department staff across the district. On the occasion, APCA Divisional President Malik Muhammad Zakir, General Secretary Ishfaq Jutt, Rana Imtiaz Ali, Naseer Ahmed, Amjed Baloch, Malik Munawar Iqbal and others addressed the protesters.
