RAWALPINDI - The decision of PML-N MNA Malik Shakil Awan of awarding grant to the supporters of PML-Q, the arch foe of PML-N, to renovate a street at Babu Lal Hussain Road Ward 2, Ratta Amral, has led to a fight, leaving fifteen people severely injured here on Monday. After the incident, police reached the scene and shifted the injured persons with the help of Rescue 1122 to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for medical treatment. According to details, the Ward 2 of Ratta Amral, falls in the constituency of PML-N MNA Malik Shakil Awan, turned into battlefield when the supporters of PML-Q dig up Street No 3 of Babu Lal Hussain Road to carpet it. Some residents of the same street, who were diehard supporters of PML-N, came out from their houses and barred the PML-Q persons from doing so saying the street was in a good condition and did not need renovation. On this, the PML-Q supporters sped up their work to destroy the street, which made the PML-N workers angry and the brawl occurred. The men of both sides hit each other with spades, bricks and sticks wounding 15 persons. Upon getting news of the incident, Police Station (PS) Gunjmandi Sub Inspector (SI) Imran Abbas reached the spot with heavy contingent of police and controlled the situation. Rescue 1122 also arrived there and shifted the injured persons to DHQ for medical treatment. Well-placed sources in PML-N informed The Nation that MNA Malik Shakil Awan had personal relations with the supporters of PML-Q and he granted them Rs0.5 million for the renovation of the street, which was already in a better condition and did not require carpeting. The sources also said that both the supporters of PML-N and PML-Q were living in the same street and men of PML-Q tried to dig up the street which made angry the supporters of PML-N and they started quarrelling with them. SI Imran Abbas, however, when contacted, said that the fight between the two opponents of two parties left 15 persons critically injured. He said that 11 injured workers belonged to PML-Q whereas 4 others belonged to PML-N. The injured persons have been transported to DHQ for medical treatment. To a query, the SI told that police had received medico-legal reports (MLCs) of the injured workers and were mulling to file a case.
