PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police during the last fortnight of March 2014 have been able to secure conviction of seven militants involved in various cases of terrorism through Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC) across the province.
According to details, the organisational reforms undertaken in Investigation Wing of KP police in the recent past have begun to deliver the desired results. Due to scientific reformation of Investigation Wing of KP police, significant improvement in rate of convection in terrorism cases has been achieved.
During the said period seven militants involved in suicide blasts, explosive transportation, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and sectarian crimes were awarded different punishment. Three accused were awarded life imprisonment, two each of 42/42 years imprisonment, two each of 28/28 years imprisonment and one accused of three years imprisonment and fine in different cases of terrorism.
One of the police constables involved in firing on a procession was also awarded punishment of life imprisonment from the court. All convictions were made by the Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC) across the province. In Peshawar in two cases three accused were awarded life imprisonment, two culprits were awarded 42/42 years punishments on recovery of explosive in Kohat, a suicide bomber and his accomplice were awarded 28/28 years imprisonment on seizing 5000kg of explosive in a vehicle in Karak while an accused was awarded three years imprisonment and fined in extortion case in Swabi.
