SIALKOT - Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the government was standing with the flood-affected people and an all-out effort will be made for their rehabilitation.
Talking to the flood affected people in Sialkot city, he said that that PML-N government had evolved a comprehensive programme for the relief and rehabilitation of the affectees. Khawaja said that government would not leave the flood affected people alone in the hard time and would soon announce relief package to compensate the flooded areas’ people. He revealed that the government was implementing an effective flood-fighting strategy in the country.
The federal minister revealed that no effort will be spared for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees and any laxity or negligence in this regard will not be tolerated. He said that besides rehabilitation of the land routes to the areas cut off by heavy rains, provision of ration, medicines and other essential items to the stranded people should be ensured and relief activities through boats should immediately be started.
He directed the local MNAs and MPAs to come up to the expectations of the people and play their due role in solving their problems at this difficult time. He said that besides rehabilitation of the affectees, financial assistance will be given to the families of those who lost their lives in flood. He also directed to take special measures for the protection of livestock and crops in the flood affected areas. He directed the district administration to conduct a survey of losses due to rains and floods for providing compensation to the affectees.
He also pledged early removal of all the encroachments from the seasonal nullahs Aik, Bhed and Palkhu which pass through Sialkot besides ensuring monthly cleanliness of these nullahs to save Sialkot from the flood disasters in the future.
He visited the flood hit areas of Sialkot city, his home town, to review the flood situation in Sialkot here today. He went to the knee-deep floodwaters in Sialkot city’s flooded Pulli Topkhana, Sialkot Cantt, Model Town, Pakka Garha, Mag Town, Iqbal Town, Touheed Town, Lorry Adda, Brigadier Colony, Shahabpura, Small Industrial Estate, Rangpura, Naikapura, Imam Sahib, Hajipura, Hajipura-Ban, Kotli Behram, Shatabgarha, Uggoki, Pak Pura, Muslim Town, Muzaffarpur, Dara Arayiaan and Mubarakpura.
He listened to the problems of flood-hit people of Sialkot and said that hectic efforts were being made to ensure early draining of flood water from Sialkot city areas. He directed the district administration to jazz up the pace of the relief activities in flood hit areas.
DCO Sialkot Iftikhar Ali Sahu, DOC Sialkot Malik Abid Hussain Awan, Administrator TMA Sialkot Tajjamal Abbas Rana, local MPAs, senior officials of Sialkot Irrigation Department and office bearers of PML-N Sialkot were also present. The DCO briefed the minister regarding flood situation and relief activities in Sialkot district. He also informed the federal minister about the problems of the flood affectees.
Four days ago, the seasonal nullahs overflowed in Sialkot city due to torrential rains, which had flooded almost all the congested residential, commercial, industrial and posh areas of Sialkot city. The areas located along the banks of these flooded nullahs were still lying inundated in Sialkot city.
On the other side, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken a notice of the bad situation in Bajwat as the 85 villages in district Sialkot were still cut off from the other areas, said a local MNA.
Talking to the newsmen, MNA Chaudhary Armughan Subhani said that the PM had directed the district administration of Sialkot to take measures on emergency basis for rehabilitation of the road links while provision of ration, medicines and other essential items to the marooned people should be ensured through boats.
He said that the prime minister had also ordered a survey of losses due to rains and floods should be conducted for providing compensation to the affectees. Later, talking to the flood affected people in Bajwat villages, the MNA said that the people should not consider themselves alone as he will personally solve their problems. He said that all the resources were being utilised for the help and rehabilitation of the people.
He visited the flood hit areas in NA 111 Bajwat, Sialkot-II. He formed special teams of PML-N workers for supervising relief and rehabilitation activities in flood hit areas. He pledged to leave no stone unturned for the rehabilitation of affectees in this hour of trial.
