LAHORE - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will not accept local government polls on non-party basis and oppose any such plan inside the assembly, besides challenging it in the courts, warned Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed.
Talking to the party leaders and workers on Sunday, he asserted that the opposition, representing 10 million people of the Punjab, would stage protest demonstrations if the provincial government failed to include the opposition proposals given to special committee of the house on Local Government Bill. He said the opposition wanted the treasury to take decisions keeping in view the aspirations of the people of the entire province.
Meanwhile, PTI Punjab chapter leadership at a meeting has constituted a flood relief committee under the supervision of Dr Nosheen Hamid Meraj and Dr Farooq Tahir Chishti to assess the damages of the flood victims in order to provide financial assistance to them.
The meeting decided that the party office bearers would visit the flood-affected areas of Punjab along with daily-use items. The PTI leaders, executive members and workers were requested to give donations for the flood victims to the party’s Punjab Secretariat.
The meeting, chaired by PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhry, was attended by the provincial office bearers, regional presidents and legislators.
The meeting also decided to form a political committee for Punjab to be headed by Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri. Andleeb Abbas, on this occasion, briefed the participants on media strategy of the party for highlighting PML-N’s poor performance in Punjab.
Meanwhile, the Punjab president notified Mehar Fayaz advocate as PTI Lawyers Forum Punjab president. Fayyaz was unanimously elected on this slot on August 17.
The party sources revealed PTI Chairman Imran Khan would visit Sargodha, Faisalabad and Pindi Bhattian on Monday (today) in connection with the by-elections and conclude his tour by addressing public meetings at Lakshmi Chowk, Lahore on August 21.
Imran, on another leg of his bye-election tour of the city, will visit NA-129, PP-150 and PP-161 on Monday tomorrow.
