RAWALPINDI - Pakistan Customs seized five bottles of liquor from the luggage of daughter of deputy chairman senate at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport (BBIIA).
However, the customs high-ups set the accused free, apparently after intervention of some mighty personalities in the federal government, reliable sources revealed to The Nation on Monday.
According to sources, Sharmeen Baloch, daughter of Sabir Baloch, arrived at airport from Toronto via Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight number PK-784 at 04:30pm and her suspicious activities led to her interception by Pakistan customs officials including shift in-charge Siraj Khattak deployed at International Arrival Lounge. During course of search of her luggage, Customs officials recovered five bottles.
The customs officials arrested the lady; however, the news of arrest of the daughter of deputy chairman Senate jolted power corridors in Islamabad and the powerful people came in action and started pressing Pakistan Customs officials not to file case and set the detainee free. Finally, Pakistan customs succumbed to the pressure and released Sharmeen Baloch along with seized liquor, sources added.
BBIIA Manager Ayaz Jadoon and other Pakistan Customs big wheels did not receive their cell phones despite several attempts made by this scribe to know their version over the issue.
