UN chief urges Pak protesters to remain peaceful

UNITED NATIONS : Amid escalating political tensions in Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday called on those holding protest marches to remain peaceful, while upholding their right to assembly. "The secretary-general is aware of the political situation in Pakistan," his Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters at the regular noon briefing in response to a question. He said the UN chief stands for the right of assembly and freedom of expression.
"The secretary-general urges all in Pakistan holding marches to remain peaceful," the spokesman added.
