Nomads also play part in war on polio

SIALKOT - The special teams of the district Health Department remained busy in administrating anti-polio vaccine to nomad children in their cottages located in various parts of the district here. The nomad families are showing keen interest in getting their children administrated anti polio vaccine. It is for the first time when nomad children have also been included the nation anti polio vaccination campaign.
District Officer (DO) Health Dr Javaid Warraich stated this while talking to the newsmen here. He said that Sialkot DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal and the EDO (Health) were supervising the campaign.
He added that more than 6,000 nomad children had been administrated anti-polio vaccine all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils here.
Section 144 imposed for anti-polio drive in Sargodha: The district administration has imposed section 144 under which refusal to administer anti-polio drops to children was declared as offence across the district.
Following the rising number of polio cases, the Punjab government has launched a three days campaign till July 18, to administer anti-polio drops to children up to 5 years of age. It is apprehended that the parents in certain areas will be reluctant to allow the health department teams to administer drops to the children.
In order to prevent the likelihood of any such activity, the district government Sargodha has imposed section 144 under CrPC 1898 under which stern action will be taken against any one hurdling the anti-polio campaign. The order will remain enact for three days. The police will take legal action against the violators of this order.
In Sahiwal, DCO Zulfiqar Ahmad Ghuman inaugurated anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to children at Government Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital here the other day.
EDO-Health Dr Syed Sohail Ahmad, DO-Health Dr Shahid Nazeer, Dr Sohail Qureshi, Ziaur Rehman Khan, Ch Sultan Mehmood and other officers were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, the DCO said that he was personally monitoring the implementation of augmented emergency response action to control polio drive in the district.
He also declared a monitoring team headed by the EDO-Health to look after the anti-polio campaign.  He urged the departments concerned to make the campaign success. He said that it was nation obligation to make all out efforts to eliminate polio from the country.
On the occasion, EDO Health Dr Syed Sohail Ahmad said that the Health Department teams would administer polio drops to each child below the age of 5 to achieve the target.
