In order to evolve foolproof security plan for Multan, Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions, all security agencies have agreed to set up a joint operation and coordination centre.
The centre will be led by Garrison Commander Maj-Gen Hasnat Amir Gillani and representatives from civil administration, intelligence agencies and Pakistan Army will sit in the centre. The decision to set up the centre was made during a high level meeting held here at Garrison Headquarters Multan on an instruction issued by Corps Commander Multan Lt-Gen Abid Parvez to beef up the security. The meeting was attended by senior civil and army officers including Commissioners and RPOs of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal as well as officers of intelligence agencies.
The participants evolved a comprehensive security strategy to foil any terrorism bid carried out by the terrorists in reaction of ongoing operation Zarb-al-Azb. It was decided during the meeting that the centre would issue order to all security agencies to cope with any law and order situation. The participants of the meeting stressed upon the civil society to support Army, police and civil administration in making the society secure. They also asked the citizens to keep eye on suspicious persons, unattended luggage or items and suspicious activities with a view to thwarting the nefarious designs of terrorists.
NO WHEREABOUTS OF KIDNAPPED SI: The district police have drawn the sketches of three kidnappers of Umar Jillani, sub-inspector of a premier intelligence agency, with the help of eye witnesses to trace the kidnappers. The police, however, failed to trace the kidnappers till filing of this report. Quoting witnesses of the incident, police sources said that the kidnapped official Umar Jillani strongly resisted and scuffled with the kidnappers but they succeeded to drag him into the car. Sources added that one of the kidnappers also got injured while forcing Umar Jillani into the car but no passer-by intervened as they thought the action was being carried out by police.
Umar Jillani, who is said to be nephew of Chief Justice of Pakistan, was kidnapped by seven armed unidentified persons from outside his home on Monday. Police said that three motorcyclists and four car riders intercepted his way and dragged him into the car from just outside his home in Garden Town area. Witnesses told the police that two of the car riders were wearing black shirts similar to police uniform. Security agencies suspected that the official was kidnapped by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Police sources said that the signals of the mobile phone of the abductee were tracked at Aziz Hotel Chowk soon after the incident while ten minutes later the signals were found at Chowk Fawara. But later on the mobile phone was switched off.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping so far, although investigators believe that the incident is reaction to recently launched army operation in North Waziristan. An FIR was also registered by the Qutabpur Police on an application filed by the abductee’s brother Obaid Jillani against seven unidentified armed kidnappers.
