LAHORE - Loadshedding is adding to peoples woes in the holy month of Ramazan as electricity shortfall crosses 4,000 megawatt. Sehr and Iftar times too are not exempted from the outages. The Lahore Electric Supply Company is conducting one-and-a-half-hour loadshedding after 30 minutes round the clock in the northern areas of the provincial capital, including Chahmeeran, Shadbagh, China Scheme, Singhpura, Bhogiwal, Dharampura, Begumpura and Goray Shah. Reportedly, the situation was worst in the suburbs of Lahore where people have been facing more than 16-hour loadshedding. People from different areas told this scriber on phone that there was no electricity in the mosques during Friday prayers and worshipers had to face severe shortages of water. Sources said over 40 per cent areas of the city were without electricity during Sehr and Iftar. According to sources in the Pakistan Electricity Power Company (Pepco), the shortfall hits up to 4,000MW on Friday and the electricity distribution companies across Punjab were conducting more than 16-hour loadshedding. The urban areas, including the major cites of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Gujranwala, have been experiencing 14-hour loadshedding while the rural areas are facing 16-18 hours without electricity, the sources said, adding that the same schedule was followed in Sindh while the situation was worst in Balochistan and KP. According to the Pepco, the generation stands at 14,779MW against the demand of 18,541MW in the country.
