RAWALPINDI - A large number of transporters on Monday gathered outside the office of the Regional Police Officer (RPO) and registered their strong protest against police lethargic attitude regarding arrest of the killers of a transport union representative.
According to details, unknown assailants gunned downed Muttahida Transport Union President Malik Sultan Ahmed Awan at Harley Street six days ago when he was heading towards his home. Despite registration of a murder case, police could not arrest the killers of Sultan Awan so far, which triggered a massive protest by the transporters. The protestors were holding placards and banners, demanding arrest of the killers.
Realizing the sensitivity of the issue, SP Muhammad Haroon Joya rushed to the site and negotiated with the protestors. Later the protestors dispersed peacefully.
Later, according to police sources, the SP also held a meeting with the transporters' representatives in his office and assured them that police would manage to arrest the killers soon. He added that he would himself probe into the murder case and would also share the details with the transporters on daily basis. The mess of transporters outside RPO Office disturbed the traffic and pedestrian movement badly.
