Sialkot police claimed to have smashed 156 gangs of notorious criminals and arrested their 490 suspected members besides recovering stolen and snatched goods including gold ornaments, cars, motorcycles and cattle worth Rs62 million during 2013.
District Police Officer Muhammad Gohar Nafees talking to newsmen said that the police also arrested 4001 proclaimed offenders and 852 court absconders, and seized illicit weapons including 42 kalashnikovs, 117 rifles, 89 guns, 1463 revolvers and pistols, 10 carbines, 30 draggers and 17,000 bullets during a special campaign launched in 2013.
The police also recovered 59-kg heroin, 323kg Charas worth millions of rupees, 7,168 bottles of wine, unearthed 55 working distilleries and arrested 149 drunk during the last year, he said and added the police also traced out 452 old cases of heinous nature. SP (Investigation) Sialkot Asad Sarfraz Khan, DSP City Sialkot Maqsud Ahmed Lone, DSP Traffic Sialkot Muhammad Waseem Akhtar were also present.
AGRI SURVEY: The agriculture department has formed 124 teams to conduct a special survey of the under-cultivation lands to promote “tunnel farming” at union council level in Sialkot district for increasing the per acre yield.
Senior officials told newsmen that the agriculture department’s officials and experts would brief farmers and growers about the proper usage of quality seeds and advanced farm machinery and technology, enabling them to increase their per acre yield by using the advanced farm technologies. They added that the special monitoring teams will also monitor this awareness campaign at union council level to ensure the direct and indirect benefits of the training.
