Our Staff reporter TOBA TEK SINGH - Christian community have praised the launching of Punjab Chief Ministers Yellow Cab Scheme, saying that the scheme will have far-reaching benefits fro the youth and will prove instrumental in the elimination of poverty and unemployment. PML-N Minority Wing leader Rashid Jalal and human rights activist Ashfaq Fateh expressed the views while addressing a press conference on Tuesday. They also demanded the Punjab Chief Minister to reserve five percent quota for the religious minorities in the proposed scheme. Ashfaq Fateh expressed his concern over the allocation of cabs based on population and backwardness and said, Maximum applications would be submitted by Muslim community therefore, their chances of winning the cabs through computerised draws will be high. Christians and other religious minorities are smaller in number so they will remain deprived of the benefits of the scheme, they added. They also pointed out that literacy rate among Christians and other religious minorities was extremely low and therefore applicants among minorities having driving licence and intermediate certificate would be rare. SCHOOLS FOR ILLITERATE WORKERS SOON: Malik Khalid Mahmood, Director Labour Education Foundation, said that there should be suitable laws in the country which would help protect rights of the workers but they were unaware about their rights. He announced opening three adult education schools for illiterate industrial workers. He was addressing the office-bearers of various trade unions at the office of Labour Party Pakistan on Tuesday. He also said that a public library will also be established. Bawa Latif Ensari, Tariq Mahmood, Akhtar Abbas, Malik Abdul Hameed, Ms Nusrat Ghouri and Rukhsana Naz were also present on the occasion.
