LAHORE - The worst-ever floods have diverted the focus of literature as the most of the writers - poets and short story writers - are busy in expressing the miseries of flood affectees in words in form of poems and Ghazals, says a bilingual renowned poetess, Assistant Prof Forman Christian College University and vice chairman of Flood Committee of writers Shahida Dilawar Shah on Sunday. Talking to TheNation she said that the writers had sent almost Rs 0.3 million, dozens of sheets, tents, edibles and other commodities of daily use for their affected brethren. Shahida revealed that it was a natural phenomenon whenever such kind of disastrous situation emerged in any part of the world including the motherland, every time the topics and thoughts of literary circles were changed. She commented that it was shocking news for the writers when the flood started devastations in numerous parts of Pakistan including Sawat, Nowshehra, Mardan, Abbot-abad, Muzaffargarh, Khan-garh, Dera Din Pana, Kot Addu, Dera Ghazia Khan, Rohila-nwali, Ali Pur, Rahim Yar Khan and other cities. From the very day, veteran poets like Hussain Majroh, Zaffar Iqbal, Qaim Naqvi, Shafiq Ahmed Khan, Aftab Javeed, Wajid Ameer, Sadiq Jameel, Javeed Aftab, Farhat Abbas Shah, Sarfaraz Syed along with other poets everyone were being seen on the leading arteries of the City, she said adding that even the poets were collecting funds now a days. These fund-raising campaigns were started from Punjab Assembly and ended in Mini Market after the Flood Committee of Poets visited Regal Chowk, Mozang Chowk, Anarkali Chowk, Main Market, Gulberg and other areas of the City, collecting money for the flood affectees. Talking about her literary career, Shahida Dilawar was of the view that the teachers especially Dr Peter Armachost of FC College University encouraged her, appreciating her poetry on modern issue. Shahida, who remained president of a large number of literary societies during her university education, said nature always forced genuine writers to create art pieces on calamities being faced by the masses.
