WASHINGTON-The United States today said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is a constitutionally elected head of the government of Pakistan.
“We support the constitutional and electoral process in Pakistan, which produced Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. We are focused on working with Pakistan,” said State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf, at the daily briefing.
"We do not support any extra-constitutional changes to the democratic system,” she added.
US will continue to work with the Pakistanis, she said. She brushed aside the suggestion of regime change and urged a peaceful political dialogue.
