PESHAWAR - police in a successful crackdown arrested an alleged mastermind of last week's grenade attacks on Shama Cinema in Peshawar.
Talking to media persons, Senior Police Officer Najeeb ur Rehman said that Hasan alias Israr, the prime suspect, was arrested from Bakhshu Bridge area of Peshawar.
He said that Hasan and his accomplice bought tickets and entered the cinema, where they watched film for half an hour before throwing grenades.
He was also injured in the attack while his accomplice escaped.
He said that efforts were underway to arrest the run away militant. Both teenagers were used by a militants outfit in the Khyber Agency.
It may be recalled here that militants targeted the cinema with three hand grenades on February 11, killing 15 people and injuring others.
Staff Reporter from Khyber Agency adds: Two pistols were recovered from possession of an Afghan national while crossing Torkham border into Pakistan here on Thursday, official sources said.
The border security force personnel on their routine checking when they stopped an Afghan youth identified as Abid. During search, two pistols were recovered from his luggage. The accused was detained and shifted to Landi kotal lock-up for investigation.
