PESHAWAR/AGENICES - At least 28 militants were killed after jet fighters pounded their hideouts in North Waziristan Agency on early Sunday morning as a part of ongoing military operation against local and foreign militants in the region.
The ISPR, a media wing of Pakistan Army, said on early Sunday morning jet aircraft hit militant positions in Shawal area, as a result of which, six militants hideouts were destroyed completely.
At least 28 militants were killed in the action. The ISPR said that among those killed were local and foreign militants. There have been fears that many top militants including including fighters from the Haqqani network from Miranshah and Mir Ali have escaped to the Shawal valley stretching across North and South Waziristan Agencies.
A day before, the ISPR said that militants had been cleared out from the areas of Boya, Degan and Miranshah, once these areas were strongholds of the terrorists. The Zarb-e-Azb operation was launched by the army after a deadly attack by militants on Karachi airport killing at least 38 people including 10 militants in the happening. 
Since June 15, the day the government formally launched a massive operation against the militants in North Waziristan Agency, around 500 militants have so far been killed in the operation, while some 1 million tribesmen from the agency have left their homes and shifted to downtowns areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Local security officials confirmed the account, but it was not possible to independently verify the casualties as the offensive is ongoing and media are banned from the area.
MIRANSHAH POST ATTACK KILLS SOLDIER
One security official was killed in an attack on security checkpost in North Waziristan's district Miranshah on Sunday.
Terrorists attacked a security checkpost located in Miranshah's area called Banda. At least one security forces personnel was martyred after the checkpost came under attack. There was an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces. However, the attackers fled away when the forces opened heavy retaliatory fire.
A large part of Miranshah has been cleared from terrorists in the ground and aerial offensive that continues as part of the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation in North Waziristan Agency.
Officials from the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said they were checking registrations for duplicates, meaning the figure may come down.
"Some 833,274 people or 66,726 migrating families from North Waziristan were registered in cities of Bannu and Peshawar until Tuesday evening," Arshad Khan, FDMA director general, said.He said 361,459 of the displaced were children and 248,633 women.
TWO COPS KILLED IN PESHAWAR FIRING
Two more policemen were killed after unknown armed motorcyclists opened firing on them at posh area of Hayatabad on Sunday, police said.
The policemen stood guard at a security check post at Hayatabad Industrial Estate when they were killed which is considered to be a targeted attack.
Police said that unidentified motorcyclists opened firing on police men identified as Akhtar Zaman and Imran and fled from the scene.
It has been learnt that the targeted policemen were wearing police uniforms but officials of Hayatabad police station said that the victims were private staffers of the Industrial Estate who were sanctioned by the Police Department.
Though, tight security arrangements have been put in place in and around the provincial metropolis in view of the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against local and foreign militants in North Waziristan Agency, yet at least eight policemen have been killed in attacks on police in Peshawar in the last 10 days.
Police said that the unidentified motor-cycle-riding gunmen opened firing on two police men when they were engaged in checking vehicles and while others were on their prayers break.
One of the guards died on the spot while the other died while being shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex. Soon after the incident, heavy contingent of police arrived after the incident and surrounded the crime scene.
However, no arrest was made till filing of this report.
