Chairlifts at Margalla Hills soon

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA),Imtiaz Inayat Elahi said that the chairlifts will be installed on the Margala Hills soon by avoiding the environment effects. He informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet in a meeting held on Friday. CDA is working on a plan to install chairlift from Margalla Hills to down park area to provide another entertainment facility to the residents, who have long been demanding of the Authority to execute the project. The project was planned by the CDA in 2004, but it was shelved following the objection by the environmentalists owing to the hazards it may create in the national park area reserved as green under the Master Plan. The residents have long been demanding of the CDA to execute the project, as it would provide them a joy ride on Margalla Hills, particularly during the winter season. Although, Interior Ministry sanctioned the funds amounting to Rs 300 million for the project, but it could not materialise. It has been planned that 2.5 kilometre cable way would have 40 to 50 cable cars, and the project would take one year for completion. The authority also conducted a survey across the twin cities, and majority of the people interviewed favoured the project. The Authority has the cognisance of the objections from the environmentalists and the civic body is endeavouring to ensure preservation of natural beauty.
