State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad has said that his party’s government believes in launching mega development projects to make Pakistan Asian tiger.
Talking to journalists here at his residence, he said that the motorway from Islamabad to Lahore was much opposed when it was being built but now the people were benefitting from the facility. He said, “We intended to connect Lahore with Karachi by constructing another motorway. The project would have completed if the PML-N government had not been toppled in 1999. We are gradually launching electricity generation projects as our target is generation of 26,000 MW electricity in the current tenure.”
He said that the prime minister recently visited Iran and signed different memorandum of understanding including on gas pipeline project. He regretted that during the last 14 years, because of poor governance and loot and plunder, major institutions including PIA, Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Steels went bankrupt. He said that because of the good performance of the PML-N, these institutions were back on the track and would start earning profit but after some time.
He said, “Premier Nawaz Sharif and his team are working round the clock for development of the county. The government wants to build a road from Khanjrab to Gawadar.” He praised the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project, and said that the project was aimed to facilitate the poor. After its completion, people would travel between the twin cities in 20 minutes for only Rs20.
