Water level in Mangla, Tarbela dams rises

MIRPUR (AJK) - Following the swift melting of snow in the top mountainous catchments, the water level in countrys largest Tarbela dam and the second biggest reservoir - Mangla dam is rapidly rising since last 24 hours, it was officially declared. Water level in Mangla dam raised to 1149.60 feet against the dead level of 1140.00 feet on Saturday, the Wapda sources told The Nation here on Saturday. The inflow of the Jhelum river in Mangla dam was recorded as 80500 cusec on Saturday day. Similarly the water level in Tarbela dam touched 1425.25 feet against the stipulated dead level of 1378.00 feet. Since the inflow of Jhelum river into Mangla dam on Saturday was recorded 80500 cusec, outflow of the river remained 45000 cusecs, the sources said. Similarly the inflow of Indus river water into Tarbela dam was recorded on Saturday as 159500 cusec against the outflow of 90000 cusecs, the sources added.
