Balochistan protests but remains peaceful

QUETTA - A peaceful ‘Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool’ was observed amid vociferous rallies and protest across Balochistan, including the provincial capital, on Friday amidst a complete shutter down strike throughout the province.More than three dozen protest rallies organised by religious and political parties, students’ organisations and non-government organisations were held in Quetta.Similarly, protest demonstrations were also held in other districts of Balochistan where people brought their business and other routine activities at standstill and took part in rallies and demonstrations to expresses their love for Prophet (PBUH) and anger against US and blasphemous movie that hurt the feelings of Muslim across the globe.Tens of thousands of protesters marched through various roads of Quetta carrying placards, as they were shouting slogans against United States.Law enforcement agencies and government officials were also seen wearing black armband to express their love for the Prophet PBUH.All shopping malls, centres, markets and restaurants remained closed throughout the day while very light traffic was seen plying on some roads of the city. All government offices, banks and educational institutions remained closed throughout the province as the Balochistan government had already announced a general holiday.The protesters torched old tyres, US flags and effigies of President Barack Obama, showing their fury against blasphemous act against Islam and their Prophet.Rallies were organised by Anjuman-e-Tajran Balochistan, Sunni Tehrik, All Pakistan Minorities Alliance, Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Jamaat Islami, Sunni Supreme Council, Pakistan Tehrik Insaf, Jamiat Al-e-Hadith, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Islami Jamiat Tulba and others.The protesters holding demonstration outside Quetta Press Club demanded immediate expulsion of the US ambassador from Pakistan and asked Muslim countries to get united to frustrate nefarious designs of anti-Islam countries.According to reports reaching from other towns of Balochistan – including Khuzdar, Zhob, Loralai, Chaman, Pishin, Nushki, Mastung, Kalat, and Dalbandin, a complete shutter down strike was observed while different religious, political parties and students’ organizations protest rallies and staged demonstrations express their love for Prophet PBUH and condemned the propane video.Administration had taken tight security measures to avert any untoward incident throughout the province; however, no unpleasant incident was reported from any part of the province.The government blocked cellular service in Balochistan early on Friday morning ahead of Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool, which was restored late night.
