Hospital air-conditioners in bad condition

RAWALPINDI -  The non-functional air-conditioners in almost all the wards including Emergency and Casualty Department of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) are continuously troubling the patients in the scorching heat.
The rise in temperature and patients and their attendants' several complaints to the hospital administration has made no difference as the administration did nothing to tackle heat wave conditions. Interestingly, all the ACs installed in the offices of Medical Superintendent and other senior professors, assistant professors and doctors are running perfectly, it was observed during a visit paid by this scribe to the hospital here on Friday.
A source in BBH revealed that though the administration had got funds for maintenance of the non-functional ACs and cooling system yet there is no progress. Similarly, all the ACs and cooling system, that were bought with million of rupees are getting ruined owing to carelessness of the administration, the source added.
"We have asked several times to MS and other people in the administration to take appropriate measures to repair the faulty ACs but in vain," Sajida Khokhar, an attendant of a female patient at Medicine Ward, told this scribe.
She said that her sister in law was suffering with abdominal pain and was admitted here but her condition is getting worse because of the hot weather.
Zaman Khan, brother of a woman who was brought in ED of BBH from Chakri Road in a critical condition, said that there was extreme heat in the ward and her sister was feeling very bad in it. He said that there were 3 ACs in the ward but none of them was working.
A large numbers of other attendants and patients also protested against the slackness of the administration and appealed Chief Minister Punjab, Secretary Health and Principal Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and Allied Hospitals Chief Executive Prof Dr Muhammad Umer to order administration to make the cooling system better. When contacted, RMC Principal and AHs Chief Executive Prof Dr Umar disconnected the call.
