ECP announces to hold LG polls for vacant Balochistan seats

Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday announced to hold elections for local governments in Balochistan on January 19, 2014 to fill the vacant seats.
According to the schedule issued by the Commission, notice inviting the nomination papers will be issued by the Returning Officers on December 26 and nomination papers will be received on December 27 and 28.
Publication of the notice of all the nomination papers received will be made on December 29 and the same day objections will be received on nominations papers.
The process of scrutiny of the nomination papers and publication of validly nominated candidates will be completed on December 30 and 31.
Dates for filing appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination have been set for January 1 and 2, 2014 and disposal of these appeals shall take place on January 3 and 4.
The date for withdrawal of candidature has been set for January 5 and publication of list of contesting candidates with symbols allotted to them will be made on January 6.
Polling to fill these vacant posts will be held on January 19 and results will be announced by the Returning Officers on January 21, 2014.
The schedule to fill the vacant posts in wards of urban and rural local councils of the province has been issued in terms of sub-section (1) of section 30 of Balochistan Local Government Act 2010 read with sub-rule (1) of Rule 9 of the Balochistan Local Government Elections Rules 2013.
Along with schedule, the ECP has also issued the Code of Conduct for holding the elections to ensure impartiality and transparency of the elections barring the governments from using the state or government resources and announcing development schemes in respective areas and ban on transfer posting.
The ECP has also warned all concerned to abide by the Code of Conduct failing which they will have to face action under the concerned laws.
