Powerlooms workers flay police inaction


TOBA TEK SINGH - Scores of power looms’ workers on Sunday staged a demonstration against the alleged failure of the Kamalia City Police to register the murder case of their colleague despite a lapse of seven weeks.
The irate workers blocked traffic on Chichawatni Road outside press club and chanted slogans against the police. On the occasion, Labour Qaumi Movement President Abdul Majeed told the newsmen that on December 1, their fellow namely Hanif, a resident of Islampura was called by four persons who took him away to a house where they strangled him to death over old enmity. They claimed that the accused later posed a drama that the deceased was electrocuted. He pointed out that later it was transpired that the accused including Adnan, Pervaiz, Javed and Yaqoob had murdered him. He lamented that despite the fact, the police were still reluctant to register a case against the accused. Meanwhile, the police officials held negotiation with the protesters and assured that after an inquiry a case will be registered at which the angry mob dispersed.
NLF THANKS DCO: The National Labour Federation has expressed gratitude to DCO Javed Iqbal for ordering the payment of two months salaries to hundreds of baledars of the Forest Department. During a meeting which was presided over by NLF Central Deputy Secretary Information Majeed Salik assured the representatives of power loom and kiln workers to support them in their demands. Jamaat-e-Islami PP-86 candidate Dr Zahid Sattar, Ch M Yousaf, Mian Abid Dastagir, Tariq Nawaz Sial also addressed the meeting.
