KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Coordination Committee has expressed its concerns over the disappearance of a private TV channels reporter and senior journalist Malik Munawer and has termed it against the freedom of press and journalism. In a statement the Coordination Committee said that Malik Munawer had left for his work but went missing on his way on Thursday last. More than twenty-four hours had passed and no contact could be established with him. The committee called it a flagrant example of suppressing the freedom of press and media. The committee sympathised with the family members of Munawer and expressed solidarity with the journalist fraternity. The committee asked President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Provincial Home Minister Manzoor Wassan to take notice of the disappearance of Munawer. They called for immediate recovery of Munawer and for providing security to the journalists. Meanwhile, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon met the journalist at press gallery of Sindh Assembly and assured the journalist community for the earliest recovery of Munawer. He said that he talked to the Sindh Home Minister, IG Sindh and CCPO Karachi about the disappearance of Munawer and said that the government would take all possible steps for the recovery of the senior journalist. Meanwhile, President PPP Karachi Division Najmi Alam, Saeed Ghani and Lateef Mughal have expressed their serious concern over the missing of prominent journalist Munawer. They demanded of the government to take necessary action to recover him.
