LONDON- Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has strongly condemned the government for not permitting landing of Dr Tahirul Qadri's plane at Islamabad airport and diverting it to Lahore.
In a statement, the MQM chief said that it is the political and democratic right of the workers of any political or religious party that they should be allowed to receive their leader.
He said thousands of PAT workers reached Islamabad to receive their leader but the way government sealed the federal capital and put barricades in their way and resorted to teargas and baton charge was condemnable adding that using power against anyone or denying them this right is undemocratic.
Altaf Hussain urged the government to behave in a mature way and stop discrimination against workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). He said that the government was crushing its opposition during the time when the Pakistan Army was at war against terrorists and the country needs to be united.
Earlier, flight EK612 carrying Dr Tahirul Qadri among other passengers was diverted from Islamabad towards Lahore. The government said that the plane was diverted to Lahore due to security situation in Islamabad.
