LAHORE - Meting out a blow to the Punjab government, Provincial Minister for Baitul Maal and Social Welfare, Atta Muhammad Maneka is mulling over quitting his office as he is not pleased with the ministry.
Maneka, the main architect of Forward Bloc that sustained Shahbaz Sharif’s last govt in Punjab against the PPP-PML-Q onslaught, says he is without any authority and power as such. “I feel I should give up the ministry.”
Talking to The Nation, Maneka said he feels ashamed before the poor and needy who seek help from Baitul Maal. He said he is helpless to provide help to the needy despite being a minister. “I have also informed the Punjab Assembly speaker that I am not willing to continue as a powerless minister,” he added.
Maneka, who also seemed annoyed with the PML-N leadership for not involving him in the delimitation of constituencies for the upcoming LG elections, said he was not invited to attend any held in this regard. He said he is not even intimated about the meetings of his ministry. He said he knocked every relevant door to convey his concerns but to no avail; therefore he was seriously pondering over quitting the ministry. However, he said he would neither quit the assembly membership nor the PML-N.
