KARACHI - Six people including a former minority MPA were killed in separate incidents of violence in different parts of the City on Saturday.
Police said former MPA Malik Atta, 50, son of Malik Ismail, a resident of Mehmoodabad No 3, was sitting outside his home when two armed men riding a motorbike gunned him down within the remit of Baloch Colony Police Station.
Resultantly, he suffered multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Police said the deceased had no affiliation with any political party and belonged to Ahmedi community. The deceased had been elected MPA as an independent candidate in 1997 elections. Police have been so far unable to ascertain the motive behind the murder. They handed over the body to his family after the autopsy.
An MQM worker was gunned down in Dhobi Ghat within limits of Garden Police Station. Police said that victim Shahid, 30, son of Bashir, was standing near his residence when two unidentified assailants riding a motorbike opened firing on him. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on way to Civil Hospital Karachi. His body was handed over to his heirs after completing medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, police found two bodies in gunny bags from Usmanabad area within the remit of Garden Police Station. Police said two friends Naseer Ahmed and Jamil Ahmed, residents of Lyari were abducted last week. The bodies of both the victims were thrown on Saturday after brutal torture. Police suspect that Lyari gangsters had killed them over suspicion.
A man was killed in Orangi within the remit of Iqbal Market Police Station.
Police officials said that Ali Hassan was sitting outside his home when three unidentified assailants riding a motorbike came close to him and opened firing on him. Resultantly, he received multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
A man was gunned down in Gabol Goth in Sohrab Goth Police Station precincts.
Police officials said that Hajji Muhammad, 40, son of Ali Zaman, a resident of Patel Para was on his way to his home when unidentified assailant shot him. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. Police shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police suspect that the motive behind the killing was personal enmity.
A man was gunned down while another was wounded during firing between two ethnic groups in Gharibabad, Malir area within the limits of Malir City Police Station. Police said that firing between two ethnic groups claimed the life of Munawar Ali Gopang and wounded Dost Muhammad. The victims sustained bullet wounds and were rushed to JMPC where doctors pronounced Gopang dead.
