ISLAMABAD - PPP's Patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has delayed his visit to Punjab to supervise MQM's inclusion in Sindh government and due to some other reasons, and now he would be visiting this most populous province of the country in next fortnight.
Bilawal has twice postponed his visit to Punjab due to different reasons as he reportedly cancelled his visit in February to avoid possible conflict in the party ahead of local elections, which were later postponed. Later, he when he wanted to come to Punjab the provincial government of PLM-N was not ready to provide required security to the PPP leader.
"Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s visit to Punjab was temporarily postponed, but he would surely be visiting Punjab," Bilawal media adviser Fawad Chaudhary told The Nation. Party sources said that the arrangements for the arrival and stay of Bilawal in Punjab had almost been completed. Due to security concerns, sources said, Bilawal would prefer coming on a helicopter.
Bilawal had claimed last month that he received threats from the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. One of his tweets read, "Received threat letter from LEJ.
Will hold Punjab govt responsible 4 LEJ attacks if Sharif cont 2 give them protection & refuse2 take action.”
Following these threats, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah had written a letter to Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif to thoroughly probe the matter. Pakistan PPP Punjab chapter had also written to Punjab government for adequate security for upcoming visits of former president Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal to Lahore.
The chief minister had immediately taken notice of Bilawal's tweet and ordered the inspector-general of Punjab to contact the PPP leader and look into the threats sent to him. PPP Punjab chapter senior members said that Bilawal's upcoming visit aims at his 'political launching' in Punjab which he believed would also mobilise the party workers in Punjab.
