BUREWALA/MAILSI/SHEIKHUPURA/SIALKOT - The overall flood situation in Punjab is returning to normalcy as water level in Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi rivers and seasonal nullahs has gradually receded except some places where high flood is passing on Friday.
According to details, about 65,000 cusecs of floodwater is passing through Tehsil Burewala in Sutlej River which has submerged 66 villages across the district, causing huge damage to standing crops, property and communication means.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority provided 500 bags of food items and 100 tents for the affectees of the district here on Friday.
DCO Jawwad Akram along with Assistant Commissioner Saifullah Sajid has been monitoring the situation in affected areas and the administration has been utilising all out resources to provide relief to flood affected people. Relief camps have been set up where food and healthcare facilities are being provided the affected people. The largest wave of floodwater of the season is passing through the area currently as present discharge at Head Islam was 51,630 cusecs, Mailsi Siphon 52,177 cusecs, Head Sulemanki 79,430, Head Ganda Singh 100,000 cusecs, Harike Headworks India 84,818 and Ferozpur Headworks India 100,336 cusecs.
Meanwhile, the rescuers in the morning recovered the dead body of a man who was drowned in the river while bathing the other day. The Vehari DCO have imposed section 144 in the river area and banned bathing and fishing in the river side.
In MAILSI floodwater discharge in Sutlej River at Head Islam is recorded at 51,630 cusecs, Mailsi Siphon 52177 cusecs, Head Sulemanki 79,430, Head Ganda Singh 100,000 cusecs, Hairy K Headworks India 84,818 cusecs and Ferozpur Headworks India 10,336 cusecs.
According to Vehari DCO Jawwad Akram, so far the floodwater has affected 66 villages in the district wherein damages caused to standing crops. He claimed that the administration was alert to any flood emergency and all precautionary measures had been put in place. On the other hand, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority has handed over bags of edibles and tents to the district administration.
In SIALKOT, all the rivers and seasonal mullahs were flowing in a normal after playing havoc in all the four tehsils Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur here.
DO (Coordination) Malik Abid Hussain Awan told that the flow of water was 67,192 cusecs in River Chenab at Head Marala and 2,380 cusecs in River Jammu Tavi at Saidpur on Friday. He said that the water level was receding day by day here.
He said that the flood situation was under control, adding that relief and rehabilitation activities were briskly underway in all the flood hit areas of across the district under the supervision of the district administration.
Similarly in SHEIKHUPURA delay in drainage of accumulated floodwater coupled with choked sewage system causing various diseases in dozens of localities located in Tehsil Ferozewala.
Former Tehsil Nazim Rana Anwarul Haq while talking to media said that Rana Town, Rachna Town, Labour Colony, Noorul Amin Colony, Pathan Colony and others had submerged in the floodwater. But the local TMA neither provided any relief to the affectees nor make any arrangement to drain out the accumulated floodwater. He feared that the dirty water in these localities could cause the outbreak of disease and urged the TMA to act swiftly to avert any such happening. He also demanded the TMA to adopt steps on war-footings to drain out floodwater.
