Hand grenade attack on police headquarters leaves nine wounded


KARACHI - As many as nine people were wounded when a bike-borne duo lobbed a hand grenade on Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Police Quarters, where a number of job seekers had lined up to submit their documents on Sunday morning.
DSP Sher Muhammad said that two unidentified bike riders targeted the police headquarters when a number of applicants were waiting for their turn to submit job application forms.  He further said that a RGD-1 grenade pin was found near the place of the incident.   The injured, Abdul Rauf, 26, Iftikhar, 21, Abdul Waqar, Rizwan, 23, Mehboob, Khalid, 20, Sultan, 28, Abrar and an unidentified man, were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. Condition of two of the wounded was stated to be serious. Officials of the Bomb Disposal Squad said it was Russian-made grenade and did not contain deadly ball bearings.   According to sources, four policemen were performing their duty at the main gate of the headquarters when the attackers threw the grenade.   After the incident, the entire area was cordoned off by a massive contingent of the Rangers and police.
