ISLAMABAD - While the urea manufacturers and traders are looting the farmers by selling products on inflationary price, Secretary Industries has turned a deaf ear to the repeated calls of farmers that the producers must be made bound to print price tag on the fertilizer bags. President Agri Forum Pakistan, Ibrahim Mughal, while talking to The Nation said that it was the genuine demand of the farmers but the said person who was the authority to do something was taking no interest in the issue. He alleged that his disinterest showed that he had been bribed by the fertilizer manufacturers who were making billion by selling product on higher price. He said that several months had passed but the demand of the Agri Forum on behalf of the farmers had not been met. "We anyhow are firm on our demand because this step of printing price tag on the fertilizer bags could save farmers from the exploitation of manufacturers to some extent," he added. Mughal also said that Secretary Agriculture Junaid Iqbal Chaudhary could do something but he was a weak person and he had never forced the Secretary Industries to take some steps and forced urea manufacturers for printing price tags on the bag. He said Rs 853 per 50-kg bag was the justified price, but the bag was available at a price of Rs 1,300 in the market that had increased the cost of production many times. Mughal also quoted Secretary Agriculture Punjab Arif Nadeem for saying that he was not in a position to do something. as this was federal matter and was supposed to be taken up by the Secretary Industries. Mughal also said that Minister for Food and Agriculture had also been approached many times but he also was giving some positive or negative gestures. He quoted Minister for Food and Agriculture Punjab, Ahmed Ali as saying that Federal Government was not responding positively. Mughal alleged five companies for making cartel and looting the farmers those include Angro Fertilizer, Fauji Fertilizer, Fatima, Daud and Sitara fertilizer. It is pertinent to mention here that market sources also confirmed the unjustified price of the product.
