ISLAMABAD (APP) Vending of fake and substandard food items at even elevated rates has become a matter of grave concern for visitors in picnic spots of twin cities. The prices of food items are too high and it is really costly that branded tin pack of the cold drink that is available at Rs35 in the open market is being sold at Rs70, twice from its original price, said Athar Abbas, a visitor at Shakarpariyan. He said there is no justification to sell out branded items at twice the original prices that mars the enjoyment of most of the visitors who often belong to middle class families. Some of the visitors even complained about sale of fake branded items that according to them are manufactured at the home based factories in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Ashraf Ali, a visitor, said he is quite familiar with the taste of regular tin pack of a specific company but when he purchased that one from one of the stalls it became known to him that it was not the original one. He said the unfortunate aspect of this illegal practice is that he purchased that tin pack at Rs50 instead of its original price that is Rs25. The vendors seen everywhere in the park are also fully cashing in on the situation and charge prices for their 'desi food items at their own will. Many of the visitors get involved in arguments with them when they have to pay high prices against apparently cheap food items. Given the recreational location of the park the vendors can charge some extra money but who can allow them to do whatever they want, said Sana Ali a visitor. She said there must be some checks and balances over the prices to facilitate the visitors who come here for fun and recreational and not for arguing with vendors who charge exorbitant prices for their cheap food items. Parks Management official while talking to APP said that they have been constantly receiving complaints about high prices being charged by the stallholders and vendors and now a clear-cut mechanism is being evolved to stop this illegal practice. First of all we would not allow vendors to sell out their items in the park as it causes cleanliness problems for the staff members and then we would fix prices for each and every food item to be sold by stallholders. Another visitor said there must be some checks and balances over the prices to facilitate the visitors who come here for fun and recreational and not for arguing with vendors who charge exorbitant prices for their cheap food items.
