MIRPUR (AJK) - The consumers of electricity in Azad Jammu & Kashmir are being charged the bills of the electricity at par with the tariff existing across Pakistan, it was officially declared. The spokesperson / Director Commercial, AJK Electricity Department Mirpur stated this here while clarifying a news item, published in a section of press, alleging the charging of over-billing carrying illicit taxes from the local power consumers. The power bills are being charged from the consumers in AJK entirely according to the prevalent rates being charged by the Wapda from the consumers across the country, the spokesman declared. The spokesman further said that the power tariff was recently raised in AJK as well under the SRO No. 363 (1) 2011 dated 06.5.2011 issued by the Ministry of Water and Power, Government of Pakistan. This increase in the power tariff also include 4 percent of Equalization Surcharge, he said adding that this surcharge will, however, not be implemented on the domestic consumers consuming electricity up to 300 of units.
