PESHAWAR - Armed assailants gunned down a cop and injured DSP Saddar Circle Abdur Rahman in two separate incidents her on Wednesday.
In first incident, armed men opened indiscriminate fire on Constable Aleem Khan who was deputed outside Shah Qabool shrine in Shah Qabool area. He received multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. The attackers, however, managed to flee from the scene. His body was taken to hospital for autopsy.
In another incident, armed person attacked a police van on Frontier Road injuring DSP Abdur Rahman who was on routine patrolling in the area. Police also retaliated to the fire and injured two attackers, but they managed to escape to the nearby tribal areas of Khyber Agency.
Soon after the incident, more contingent of police rushed to the crime scene and shifted the injured DSP to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, where he was provided emergency medical treatment. Police also launched a search operation in the area and arrested several suspected persons.
Funeral of the martyred cop was offered in Peshawar Police Line. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG Nasir Durrani and other high ranking police officers attended the funeral.
It is worth mentioning here that at least seven police personnel have been killed and 10 others injured in the last two weeks.
