­Lakki police arrest five over gas theft

LAKKI MARWAT  - Police arrested five people, including an SNGPL official for their alleged involvement in excreting oil from the main gas pipeline near Naurang town and selling it in the open market. "DPO Ismail Kharak had received information about the illegal practice of excreting oil from gas pipeline upon which he directed area police to take action," Naurang circle SDPO Noor Muhammad said while speaking at a press conference at his office on Sunday.
He said the Sale Meter Station (SMS) of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited situated at Nar Sahibzada Khost near Naurang was put under surveillance besides law enforcers were directed to be alert.
"On Sunday morning an informer communicated presence of some suspects in the SMS facility where upon a police contingent immediately reached the place," he maintained. The SDPO said that cops caught five people red handed while excreting petrol from the main gas pipeline and storing the commodity in small size drums.
The arrested men included an SNGPL Station Monitoring Officer Gul Faraz, Abdul Hameed, Ameerullah, Barkatullah and Amanullah," he added.  He told journalists that police also seized 18 drums full of petrol, seven empty drums, two motorcars used for transportation of commodity and a pistol from the arrested culprits and registered a case against them.
