ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Friday while rejecting report of Rawalpindi police directed the Inspector General of Police, Punjab to appear in person on the next date of hearing in minor girls abduction case. A three-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal and comprising Justice Shakirullah Jan and Justice Raja Fayyaz noted that no significant progress had been made in Nadia Mushtaqs abduction case. The court observed that despite sending various police teams to Hyderabad and other cities Nadia still could not be recovered. Nadia Mushtaq daughter of Qazi Mushtaq was abducted from Rawalpindi. On strong protest of parents of the abducted girl Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo moto notice and sought the report from the police. The SC ordered the police to recover the abducted girl. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mukhtar Gondal on Friday submitted the report, which the court rejected and said that four years had passed but police had failed to recover the girl. Justice Javed Iqbal asked the RPO that this matter would not be resolved unless the police officers were sent to jail. He said that if the police had taken timely action they could have recovered the girl. Justice Javed said despite the court order the police showed reluctance to arrest ASP Ishtiaq Anwar, who was the inquiry officer at that time.
