SANGLA HILL - Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir has said that country foreign policy is in the right direction and the government has adopted a multi-pronged approach to steer the country out of all problems. He was addressing to a huge gathering at Government High School here the other day.
He said that the granting of GSP plus status to Pakistan by the European Union and resolution passed by the UN General Assembly against drone attacks were ample proof of Pakistan's diplomatic achievements. "The PML-N is trying hard to restore the soft image of the country," he said. He said that the prime minister was fulfilling his promise through the loan scheme that he had made during the election campaign. "The PML-N believes in practical steps and not in political gimmicks," he added.
Later, while talking to media Barjees Tahir said that the media was an asset to the country without which it was impossible to defeat dictatorship and it had also played a great role in the judiciary freedom movement, adding that freedom and responsibility should be adopted for better working. He said that the media should highlight the weaknesses of the government but also project positive development to raise hope among the masses. The Minister said, "We have to get rid of elements which cause unrest in the country. Protests are not a solution as they hamper investors and maligning the image of the country."
Barjees Tahir said that the economy had grown from 2.5 per cent to 5 per cent in the first quarter, adding that Pakistan was moving towards revival of the economy.
He said infrastructure and the energy sector were badly neglected over the past 14 years. He said that the present government had added 1,700 MW to the national grid and initiated a campaign against power theft and defaulters.
