Four more Afghan rockets land in Bajaur

BAJAUR AGENCY - Four rockets fired from Afghanistan landed in Bajaur Agency on Sunday, however, no loss of life was reported. Local sources said that about four rockets, fired from Kunar province of Afghanistan Sunday afternoon landed at Katkot, a bordering area of Bajaur Agency on Pakistan-Afghanistan border. They said that all the four rockets fell at a deserted area of Katkot and thats why no loss of human life was reported in the incident. The local administration confirmed the incident and said that in the current month of July it was the sixth rocket attack from across the border in Bajaur Agency. They said that so far a total of 11 tribesmen have been killed and 20 others injured in rocket attacks from across the border in Bajaur Agency alone. It was the latest in a series of alleged cross-border incidents that have raised tensions between the neighbours even as officials confirmed exploratory peace contacts between Afghanistan, the United States and the Taliban. There are Taliban strongholds on both sides of the border, but Afghan and US officials want Pakistan to do more to eradicate militant sanctuaries in its semi-autonomous tribal belt. Pakistans military says its forces have sometimes shelled suspected militants fleeing into Afghanistan, but not on the scale and intensity alleged by Afghanistan. Pakistan has repeatedly claimed to have eliminated the militant threat in Bajaur, one of seven districts in the tribal belt that Washington has called the global headquarters of Al-Qaeda, but attacks on troops have continued.
