LAHORE - Abbottabad Commission has called well known international law expert Ahmer Bilal Soofi to assist the members of the Commission in examining the international law applicable to the 2nd May incidence of OBL, says a statement issued here on Monday. This incidence had generated a global debate about the legitimacy of US intervention inside Pakistan and also on the legal basis of assassinating OBL. US maintains that it did have legal basis for the intervention whereas Pakistan had expressed serious reservations over the breach of sovereignty. The Commission, according to statement, may also take a statement from Ahmer Bilal Soofi, if required on the applicable provisions of international law. Mr Soofi is expected to provide assistance to the members of the Commission on the interpretation of various UN Security Council resolutions and other applicable treaties and conventions. The members of the Commission may also pose specific questions to him for additional clarifications. Mr Soofi shall appear before the Commission on October 26 (tomorrow).
